x2

Following the release of their new album, End Titles…Stories for Film, U.N.K.L.E. are now offering a free download of their new version of the X Files theme. The theme will be featured in The X Files: I Want to Believe (out July 25) during the end credits, but is not on the new album. You can stream it, here. Download link below. Basically, it’s awesome. Not that I am very, very excited for this movie…cause only dorks like X Files.

I’m way ahead of you, Scully.

Buraka Som Sistema Posted a New Track From Upcoming LP

buraka som sistema

Buraka Som Sistema, or BSS, have posted another new track on their myspace page from their upcoming Enchufada release, Black Diamond. “Kalemba” feat. PongoLove does not have “Sound of Kuduro” beat (that is still my favorite song/thing of 2008 thus far), but it may be the second most awesome thing created in the whole world this year (I hope it gets a video that is even half as good as this). The Portuguese DJ group is doing the festival circuit all summer through-out Europe. The album still appears to be tentatively due “summer of 2008,” but I still can’t find an official release date.

You can keep an eye on the Enchufada website here (and blog here).

New Common Track, “Announcement” feat. Pharrell

common

Another new Common track off of his upcoming album, Invincible Summer. “Announcement” was produced by The Neptunes and features Pharrell. This is pretty straight up dirrty for Common, as he calls hip hop his “bitch” that “needs a dick.” Even Pharrell sounds completely unlike himself on this track. I didn’t like this at first but I cannot get the thing out of my head.

Verve Release First Single From Upcoming Album

the verve

As comforted as I am by a new Verve single, I have to say that “Love is Noise” is good, but not exactly great. The sample on the track is, to say the least, very strange and takes some getting used to. Regardless, I’m content with Richard Ashcroft singing over pretty much anything and am very excited for the release.

Four is set for August 19 in the states on Verve’s On Our Own label (18 in the UK on EMI).

Mickey Factz rendition of Portishead’s “Machine Gun,” complete with some badass rhymes, continues this week’s Portishead love (Radiohead doing “Rip”? Yes.). He kills this.

New Sigur Ros Song “Gobbledigook”

sigur ros

The first song from Sigur Ros’ upcoming album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum, is completely different from any thing the band has done before. I think I hear what could be considered a chord progression on an acoustic guitar. Crazy.

Cool cover?

Pretty self explanatory; “Say Goodbye to Love” Remix with Lupe Fiasco off Kenna’s latest, Make Sure They See My Face. Remember when Kenna used to be really depressing?

New Common DJ Skee Premier “Universal Mind Control” Ft. Pharrell

common

Common’s new album Invincible Summer is already sounding like a whole different artist. “Universal Mind Control,” the album’s opening track and first to make it onto the web, is produced by the Neptunes and features Pharrell. The sound is completely different from the Kanye heavy Finding Forever, but still works just as well. Invincible Summer is due in July. Thanks Gilmore Boy.

beck recording

The first music has surfaced from the Beck produced Danger Mouse recording sessions (otherwise known as Modern Guilt). The track, called “Chemtrails,” is yet another completely different sound for Beck, adding in some psychedelic soundscapes (reminds me of the production on the DM produced The Good the Bad and the Queen album). The track is streaming via the boombox up top on Beck.com. No official release date is set yet for the album.

nas nigger

According to many many sources, it appears that Nas has officially canned the Nigger LP title thing. However, the album will be released untitled and this is apparently already old news (and somewhat expected).

The album will still get it’s July 1 release date, but Nas isn’t losing the name completely…this track made its way on to the blogs today (coincidence?). Don’t worry Nas. We know what’s up.

Not officially out on iTunes until May 13…but thanks to the internet, the new track from New Kids on the Freakin’ Block is here now. I hope, for your sake, that you press play before it gets pulled.

“Kissin’ on you while the ocean rocked…”

Hell yes.

Lights Out

I knew I heard “Creator” in a beer commercial…

Santogold’s incredible debut is far from losing hype. Her tracks “Lights Out” and “Creator” are part of Bud Light’s new “summer state of mind” campaign, and their exclusive free download of a “Lights Out” remix probably gave Budlightlime.com more hits than they’ve ever seen.

New Coldplay Single “Violet Hill”
April 29, 2008, 11:12 am
Filed under: New Music | Tags: , ,

This is a new Coldplay.

The band has done a pretty good job of keeping leaks from their upcoming LP (Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends) off of the internet, and eventually decided to put this up for free on their site as of today.

While many scoff at the idea of Coldplay as a legitimately talented rock band, there’s all sorts of critic hushing going on in “Violet Hill.” I hear the Brian Eno in the Bullet the Blue Skyness of the pounding drums and echoed vocals, and I think I’ll stop there and save the rest for my album review.

The track will be up for free download for exactly one week, here.

EDIT: They give the song away for free, but then they take it off the internet. I knew EMI would still manage to suck. If you’re having the same problems as I am getting that “instruction email,” you can check out a stream here.
